Here's what our community needs to know about the cybersecurity incident affecting the library.
What happened?
[Early in the morning] of [date], Burlington Public Library experienced a systems outage. The Library immediately engaged cybersecurity experts and the investigation has been ongoing since then.
The investigation has confirmed that the outage that occurred on [date] was the result of a cyber attack. The Library is communicating with Halton Police Services regarding the attack.
This cybersecurity incident caused a system-wide service disruption, and we are doing everything possible to return to business as usual as quickly as we can. Please be assured that safeguarding the security of your personal information and our library system is our top priority.
We anticipate the investigation and restoration to full operations will take time. The Library will continue to provide more information through our website, social media channels, and email newsletters when it becomes available.

Our investigation has not yet determined if or how this incident has affected personal information.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work hard to investigate the incident and restore affected services.
Please hold on to your borrowed items until further notice. At this time, we are unable to process returns and update your library account. As a reminder, we no longer charge daily overdue fines. Until our customer information system is back in action, please enjoy your library items a little longer and keep them safely at home.
