Burlington Public Library branches are open during their regular hours; however, there may be some service limitations, such as no self-checkout or Wi-Fi.
Read about our currently available services and service limitations.
Borrowing
You can still borrow physical items from the library, but we are unable to process renewals at this time. We encourage you to enjoy your library items a bit longer while we work on getting our customer information system back up and running.
Unfortunately, the network outage prevents us from offering online resources for now, such as our OverDrive/Libby eBook and eAudiobook collection, and streaming movies movies through Hoopla and Kanopy. Please read our What’s Available page for the latest library services update.
Holds
We’re working on getting our catalogue back in action soon. Despite the temporary limitations, our collection is available for you to browse online but you cannot access your online My BPL account to place holds at this time. Please get in touch using the yellow Contact Us button on every web page or call 905.639.3614 for further assistance.
If you received a hold pick-up notification before the incident, you can still pick it up at your branch by the pick-up deadline.
Returns
At this time, we are unable to process returns and update your library account. So, please hold on to your borrowed items until further notice.
Fees & Charges
Burlington Public Library no longer charges daily fines for overdue items. Additionally, until our system is fully restored, we will not charge replacement fees for long overdue or missing items.
Library Card
If you would like to become a Burlington Public Library member, please visit one of our seven locations in person. Online library card registration is not currently available.
Unfortunately, if you are a BPL member, you cannot use your BPL card at other library systems in Halton Region or Hamilton right now. Other library systems cannot authenticate BPL card information. If you have questions about using your BPL card, please contact the neighbouring libraries directly.
Computers, Wi-Fi, Printing & Copying
The cybersecurity incident has affected BPL's public computers, Wi-Fi, printing from a computer, and faxing services. Please check our current service limitations for updates. Branch photocopiers are working.
Programs
All registered and drop-in programs will continue as planned, but we're very sorry that all our virtual programs are cancelled until further notice. Unfortunately, this also includes access to our Library Speakers Consortium online resource.
[OR depending on the situation]
We have temporarily cancelled all library programs at this time, but we hope to start offering limited drop-in programs by [date]. Please watch our update pages and eNewsletters for news about our programs.
